Over 60 brethren assembled at Fleetwood Masonic Hall to witness Tony Blundell being installed into the chair of Wyre Lodge No 7704. The representative on this occasion was Chairman of Blackpool Group Peter Bentham, supported by Chairman of North Fylde Group Duncan Smith, vice chairman Peter Greathead and Neil MacSymons, together with acting Provincial grand officers Brian Ogden and Gordon Ivett.
With the regular lodge business dispatched by the master Gordon Maxwell, it was time to install the master elect. Gordon proceeded to invite Frank Kennedy to act as installing senior warden, David Platt to act as installing junior warden and Ken Mackie to remain as installing inner guard. Master elect Tony was presented by Frank Kennedy, his proposer.
Tony was flawlessly installed by Gordon and the rarely heard working tools of an installed master were presented in his usual excellent manner by the lodge’s director of ceremonies Bob Hopwood. The other working tools were well delivered by Ron Crewdson, Danny Whalley and Bert Openshaw.
Frank Kennedy then delivered the address to Tony, which was followed by the address to the wardens by Duncan Smith and the address to the brethren by Peter Bentham.
At the conclusion of the installation, Peter congratulated Gordon Maxwell on the excellent manner in which he had installed Tony and congratulated all who had taken part in the ceremony.
On behalf of the lodge, Tony presented Peter with cheques for charities with a combined total of £1,500, consisting of £600 to the West Lancashire Freemasons’ Charity, £400 to Cystic Fibrosis, £300 to the Mustard Seed Group, based at St Peter’s church in Fleetwood, and £200 to the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Gordon Maxwell gave the toast to the newly made master, whose good friend Hugh Mett rendered the master’s song, with birthday boy Shaun Haynes tinkling the ivories.
At the conclusion of a marvellous evening at ‘Wonderful Wyre’, the tyler’s toast was presented by the Provincial Grand Tyler Gordon Ivett.
