It is our Provincial Grand Master’s wish that we enjoy our Masonry and in true West Lancashire fashion Peter Whaley, the director of ceremonies at Lancaster Castle Lodge No 5952, took a piece of that enjoyment all the way to Perth, Western Australia, when he visited a number of lodges in the immediate vicinity.
In truth, Peter was visiting his stepdaughter who lives just north of Perth. On his last visit, he noticed a number of Masonic halls, but unfortunately none were open. For this trip, Peter was determined to visit at least one of the lodges, so he made contact with the Grand Lodge of Western Australia and found details of the lodges that met in the area he was visiting. Peter then contacted Provincial Grand Lodge to make sure he was allowed to visit and as Western Australia comes under the English constitution, permission was granted.
Prior to his trip he arranged to visit two lodges, the first being Richmond Lodge No 32 in Freemantle, to witness a first degree ceremony and the second visit was to Seaview Lodge No 336 at Scarborough District Masonic Hall, to see a second degree ceremony. Unfortunately for Peter the ceremony at Seaview Lodge was cancelled, but in true Masonic style the lodge members made the best of the situation and started their Christmas festivities even sooner than originally planned.
Peter’s visit to the lodges in Western Australia was a great success and he was made to feel like a celebrity. In his own words Peter said: “The hospitality was amazing.”
