It was a sunny Saturday afternoon in May 2023 that saw a group of enthusiastic crown green bowlers meet at the Saracens Bowling Club in Halsall for the Annual Ormskirk and Bootle Group Bowls Competition.
The weather once again favoured the bowlers with warm sunshine ensuring that the green was quite lively, which therefore presented the competitors with some testing games. The day’s order of play was organised into separate knockout competitions so that all the bowlers had at least three games until the numbers had been whittled down to the finalists.
John Metcalf and Stuart Cunningham had won through to the final and after an enjoyable and keenly fought game, John once again claimed the winner’s trophy which was presented by the Group Chairman Graham Chambers, with Stuart being presented with the runner-up trophy.
John and Stuart will be the Ormskirk and Bootle Group’s representatives at the Provincial Crown Green Bowls Tournament which will be held on Saturday 15 July 2023 at The Fox Lane Sports and Social Club, Leyland, starting at 10:00am.
Support for the bowling competition would be most welcome. Food will also be available all day in the clubhouse.
