The considerable momentum being built by the Southport Light Blues Club continues to gather pace, with this month’s gathering having a distinctly Italian flavour. Leading the way yet again was the always smiling Alister Sainter, who had organised the evening with his customary approachability and easy charm.

Alister was supported by a large labour of Masons, including many familiar faces such as Southport Group Secretary Richard Jenkinson and Deputy Group Secretary Dean Walters. Fittingly, the attendees also included Elliot Boyd-Preece, who had first expressed his interest in Masonry at the light blues January event and only last month joined his father in becoming a proud Southport Mason.
The evening began at the Windmill pub, where members gathered for drinks before heading to the Volare Italian restaurant for a delicious feast and assorted shenanigans. The informal setting provided an excellent opportunity for new Masons to meet and engage with brethren of all ages and experience. The old friendships on display provided a very visible example of how Masonry fosters friendships that can last a lifetime, complementing the welcomes and open friendship being offered to the newer members.
The brethren then moved on to the Volare Italian restaurant, where a multi-course feast had been prepared. The restaurant’s generous spread of Italian cuisine was well complemented by the diverse bar, and the brethren were treated very well indeed. Following the meal, a quiz was run by Alister on a famous movie starring Michael Caine and set in Italy. A particular spirit of competition took place between the tables when the challenge for the best impression of “you’re only supposed to blow the bloody doors off” came forward. The prize was ultimately taken by Alan Davies Senior, who became the proud owner of a cap covered in Masonic symbols, care of Southport Regalia.
A particularly special event was then celebrated, with a special ice cream being brought out to mark the special occasion of Richard Jenkinson’s birthday. To loud cheers and a chorus of “happy birthday,” was sung.

The Southport Group Light Blues Club continues to go from strength to strength, bringing members together through good food, great company, and lasting friendships. All new Masons looking to make new friends, or simply enjoy a relaxed evening out, will shortly be able to find details of the next event available from their lodge secretary.
