The companions of Stanley of Bickerstaffe Chapter No 3511 and their many guests, held their installation convocation at Ormskirk Masonic Hall and on this occasion the chapter was honoured by the presence of Third Provincial Grand Principal Ian Higham.
Ian was accompanied by Ormskirk and Bootle Group Chairman Frank Umbers, who is also a member of the chapter, group vice chairman Graham Chambers and grand officer Roy Pyne. Also attending the meeting was Provincial Deputy Grand Director of Ceremonies Neil MacSymons and acting Provincial grand officers; Gregory Pinnington, John Wooton and Brian Griffiths.
The meeting commenced with the first principal Geoff Lever opening the convocation, assisted by his companions; Mike Sheron second principal and Ian Tupling third principal. Once the initial business had been completed the Provincial Deputy Grand Director of Ceremonies was admitted into the temple and announced that Ian Higham was without and demanded admission. Ian was then brought into the temple in a procession, accompanied by Frank Umbers, Roy Pyne and the acting Provincial grand officers.
After Ian was warmly welcomed to the chapter by the three principals, the installation ceremony commenced with the companions of the chapter and visitors being treated to witness an excellent and faultless ceremony, with Mike Sheron, Ian Tupling and Peter Hoyles, being installed into the three chairs respectively.
The scripture readings and prayers were expertly delivered by Ian Kennedy, Paul Smith and Malcolm Sandywell. The scarlet robe address was presented by Ian Rooney, the purple robe address by Tony Prior and the blue robe by Malcolm Sandywell, all delivered in a confident and superb manner.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, Ian brought the greetings and congratulations on behalf of the Grand Superintendent Tony Harrison, congratulating the three principals, saying: “The Grand Superintendent hopes you have an excellent and enjoyable year in office.” Ian then went over to the outgoing first principal Geoff Lever thanking him for all his work in his year in office and for the way he had installed Mike into the first principals chair. Ian then thanked and congratulated all the members of the chapter who had been involved for the excellent and enjoyable ceremony.
The charity steward, Walter Lyon, then presented Ian with an envelope containing cheques on behalf of the chapter for charities, £100 to the Ormskirk Masonic Hall Association, £100 The Friends of Tithebarn and £100 to Trachea Oesophageal Fistula Support (TOFS), on behalf of the recipients Ian thanked the companions for their generosity.
Following the convocation the members and guests retired to enjoy the delights of the festive board, in good company.
