Brethren of Hope Lodge No 4003 saw the first installation of the new season in the Wigan Group, held at Bryn Masonic Hall, in the presence of Assistant Provincial Grand Master Frank Umbers. He was accompanied by grand officers; David Ogden and Barry Dickinson, and acting Provincial Grand Steward Craig Lyon.
Master elect Phil Barr, who became a member of Hope Lodge in 2022 as a joining member and requested to go through the chair, was presented by John Lomax in front of a full temple. The installation ceremony was undertaken by Keith Lomax, John’s brother, who installed Phil as master of the lodge in splendid form, to the acclaim of all present.
On a sad note, David Ogden undertook the DC duties as the incumbent DC had suffered a family bereavement and was unable to be present.
Following the election of officers, Keith Lomax delivered the address to the master, John Lomax delivered the address to the wardens and Kim Lyon delivered the address to the brethren of the lodge, all of which were sincere, accurate and well-articulated.
In like manner, all the working tools were delivered by junior brethren: The third degree tools being delivered by Peter Farley, the second degree tools by Mike Butler and the first degree tools by James O’Neill. The second degree tools were of particular note, as the long version was flawlessly presented.
At the completion of the installation ceremony, newly the installed master, Phil Barr presented cheques to Frank Umbers for the total sum of £750. £400 to the Alzheimer’s Society, £100 to WLFC and £250 to Ashton Masonic Hall, which Frank suitably accepted, thanking the brethren for their generosity on behalf of the eventual recipients.
A lively festive board followed, with a superb offering from Phil and Christine, after which the 60 attendees made their happy journey home having witnessed a splendid installation.
