Friends of two very special Furness children held a successful fundraising event on their behalf at the Fairfield Masonic Hall in Barrow. The evening was organised by Dave Grove and Dave Nicholson, two local Freemasons, who are both members of Baldwin Lodge No 1398 and the fundraising evening was attended by more than 70 ticket holders.

The main attractions of the evening were two former Manchester City players, Peter Barnes and Tommy Booth and the event took the form of an entertaining ‘questions and answers’ session which provided the audience with lots of laughter and banter.
A fantastic sum of money was achieved by the auction and raffle. The star item in the auction was four tickets in the legends lounge at the Etihad Stadium in Manchester with full hospitality, which were bought by four local Manchester City fans. The tickets were generously donated by Peter Barnes and Tommy Booth.
A pie and pea supper was kindly provided at cost price by Carlos Catering, so that as much money as possible could be raised for the benefit of the two special children. Dennis Laird and Steve McKellar did a brilliant job selling raffle tickets and Richard Wilcock ran the auction.
The funds raised are for the benefit of two local disabled children. The money will go towards a wheelchair for a young man who has a condition called Pura syndrome, which is a rare genetic disorder that affects neurodevelopment and is non-verbal. The other recipient is a little girl called Mia, who has Dandy-Walker syndrome, which is a congenital condition where the cerebellum does not develop normally in the womb. Money is being raised towards providing a safe play area for her.
Dave Grove and Dave Nicholson thanked all of the staff at Carlos Catering and the attendees for their generous support, from Masons and non-Masons alike.
