In March 2022, Fermor Lodge No 1313 initiated the 2023 WM’s son Ethan Crickson at the age 18 years and 176 days and to initiate the son of a brother, called a Lewis, at such a young age was a rare event in the lodge’s history.
At the 2023 November meeting, the lodge had another similar rare event. The brethren initiated Alan Davies, a 59-year-old railway worker. Why was this so special? His proposer was his son, Alan Davies Jnr, prompting one comment asking if this meant Alan Snr would be a ‘Siwel’? (Lewis backwards).
The ceremony was carried out splendidly by the new team of inner guard, wardens and deacons, all light blues, and with Mike Clarke occupying the chair of King Solomon at the request of the master.
Most notable were the presentation of the working tools which was delivered in fine style by Ethan Crickson, an entered apprentice, as well as an absolutely excellent rendition of the charge delivered by the candidate’s son, a fellow craft, after only deciding to do it three weeks previously. From this evidence, the lodge is in good hands for the coming years.
