The brethren and friends of Asshaw Lodge No 6849 gathered to celebrate Denis Martindale’s installation into the chair of King Solomon. The lodge was honoured by the presence of Peter Lockett who was representing the Provincial Grand Master Tony Harrison. Peter was accompanied by grand officers Peter Bentham and John Robson, along with group secretary Don Hesketh, group treasurer Mike Silver and acting Provincial grand officer Derek Robinson.
The lodge was opened by its master Terry Ford who concluded the normal business of the lodge. The lodge was ready for Edwin Schofield to present master elect Denis Martindale. The presentation of Denis being effected, Terry installed Denis into the chair of King Solomon of this fine lodge.
The working tools in the third, second and first degrees were presented in fine style by Edwin Schofield, Peter Willingham and Paul Vernazza respectively. Terry Ford was appointed charity steward and a summary of his duties was recited by Malcolm Warren. The address to the master was delivered by Edwin Schofield, the address to the wardens was presented by Peter Beardmore and the address to the brethren of the lodge by Peter Lockett.
Peter Lockett brought greetings from the Provincial Grand Master. Peter congratulated Denis on ascending to the chair of this fine lodge. Peter also congratulated Terry Ford on a very nice ceremony of installation. He also thanked the lodge members on behalf of the ultimate recipients, for their generous donations of £100 to Charnock Richard Scout Group and £1,500 to the Masonic Charitable Foundation 2012 Festival.
As a consequence of the donation to the MCF 2021 Festival, regional charity steward Malcolm Warren stepped forward to present the lodge with a vice patron certificate, recognising their generous donation to the charity.
The work of the lodge being completed the brethren and their guests retired to an excellent festive board at which Peter Lockett congratulated the junior members of the lodge (Paul Vernazza and Peter Willingham) for their flawless renditions of the working tools. Peter congratulated Terry Ford for the way he had led the lodge during his year in office.
Peter asked those not sporting a chapter jewel to think seriously about completing their Masonic journey by joining a chapter and he thanked those who were wearing their MCF 2021 Festival Steward’s Jewel for their support of the festival.
The master’s song was sung by Bryan Flynn accompanied by Ken Ingham.
