The meeting of Provincial Grand Lodge for 2017 was, as ever, a magnificent and memorable event. The new venue of the Opera House at the Winter Gardens, Blackpool lent itself perfectly to this colourful spectacle. 1,425 attended the Opera House with the celebrants’ banquet being held in the adjoining Empress Ballroom and with over 700 dining, it was a friendly and convivial meal with much exchanging of news between old and new friends alike.
The Chorley Group entered into the spirit of the celebrations with four acting ranks, eight first appointments and 14 promotions. Those honoured with acting ranks were: Peter Allen PrJGW, Derek Robinson PrAGDC, Stuart Wilson PrGStdB and Anthony Slater PrGStwd; whilst promoted from acting rank of PrGStwd, which he received in 2013, was Iain Simpson to PPrSGD.
First appointments were: Geoff Mort PPrSGD, Geoff Hare PPrSGD, George Fletcher PPrJGD, John Pilling PPrJGD, James Bradley PPrAGDC, Fred Jolly PPrAGDC, David Thompson PPrAGDC and Phillip Baker PPrAGSwdB.
Promotions were awarded to Hugh Hunter PPrGSwdB, Charles Boardman PPrGSuptWks, Paul Mullineaux PPrGSuptWks, Alan Fairclough PPrGSuptWks, Martin Sim PPrDGSuptWks, Alec Gardner PPrDGSuptWks, Dave Pickstock PPrDGSuptWks, Robert Smith PPrDGSuptWks, Ray Watkinson PPrDGSuptWks, John Cooper PPrSGD, James Turner PPrSGD, Dennis Bolton PPrJGD and William Rodman PPrJGD.
The sun shone, the brethren were happy celebrating the honours their friends had received and all enjoyed a great day out.
