Christan Upton, the master elect of Carnarvon Lodge No 2376 and headmaster of Tarleton Community School was arrested during a whole school assembly in September 2023 and sent to Queenie’s correctional facility in Southport.
The act was part of a local charity event called Queenie’s Jail and Bail which saw a variety of respected people in the local community charged with crimes and places on trial. When found guilty they are sent to jail, only to be released once they have raised their bail money.
Chris was charged with the heinous crime of wig stealing. Pleading his innocence, he attempted to win over the grumpy judge by complimenting her on her lovely wig. His crimes were too severe, and he was sent to jail following a mugshot, fingerprints being taken and he was met by a scary custody sergeant before being slammed into his cell.
To assist in funding their bail money, Chris and the other prisoners were asked to complete special challenges, such as eating candy floss while riding on a carousel. After a crazy and action-packed day an amazing total of £1,612 was raised by Chris alone, with the money going to Queenscourt Hospice.
Chris commented: “As a headteacher in Tarleton, I have seen time and again how Queenscourt has supported the families of our children and wider school community in such difficult times, giving them the love and support needed. They do such an amazing job and I am very happy to support this worthy cause.”
Chris is also looking forward to receiving his OBE at Windsor Castle with his family and parents present.
