Barrow Chapter No 3928 was pleased to welcome Assistant Provincial Grand Principal Barry Jameson as the principal guest at their installation meeting. Five acting officers accompanied Barry to Barrow in Furness Masonic Hall. There were three from the Furness and South Lakeland Group in the persons of Jim Richards, Mike Jenkins and David Ozanne. In addition, Neil McGill and Steve Jennings had made their way around Morecambe Bay from the Lancaster Group.
Prior to the meeting group chairman Peter Schofield was on hand to welcome Barry to the northern part of the Province. They were able to enjoy an excellent ceremony with Paul Heavyside, David Dryden and Mick Lacey MBE being installed as first, second and third principals respectively. It was particularly pleasing that the trio were all débuts in their roles.
Installing first principal Tony Cassells performed his duties to a very high standard and was a delight to listen to. Similarly Paul and David installed their successors in fine style. Tony and David undertook the robe and sceptre addresses for the first and third principal respectively whilst treasurer Bill Glassey orated that of the second principal.
The quality of the ceremonial work on display was a tribute to the efforts of director of ceremonies George Manderson. The fact that there is at least one candidate for the coming year will mean that the newly appointed principals will be guaranteed some work to do.
To mark the occasion a cheque for £300 in favour of the Masonic Charitable Foundation 2021 Festival was presented to Barry.
Following the ceremony 50 members and their guests enjoyed an excellent celebratory meal where tribute was paid to chapter scribe John Quiggin for his hard work in making all the arrangements.
