Companions of Elias Ashmole Chapter No 148 were honoured and delighted to receive Second Provincial Grand Principal Peter Elmore at their installation at Warrington Masonic Hall. Peter was accompanied by fellow officers from Supreme Grand Chapter, Assistant to the Provincial Grand Principals Barry Jameson and Chairman of Warrington Group Chris Eyres, along with Jack Forsyth and Stan Churm. They were supported by acting Provincial officers Robert Wright PrAGDC and Darren Brown PrGStwd. Over 40 members and guests witnessed the installation of Andrew Anderson into the first principal’s chair, particularly his very proud father David.
The chapter was opened for business by the installing first principal John Goodrum and the usual administration duties undertaken. The distinguished guest was received by the three principals and John extended his warm welcome to him and to all the dignitaries and visitors. He continued by hoping they would have an enjoyable evening. Peter was offered the sceptre by John, which he received, only to return it, explaining that even as an installed first principal in his own chapter, he had heard that the ritual at Elias Ashmole Chapter was a little different than that he was familiar with, so he considered it was better to hand it back into the experienced hands of John.
Andrew Anderson was presented to John to receive at his hand the benefit of installation as first principal and Dennis Wilding presented as second principal by Gwilym Jones, director of ceremonies. David Tabron was to be installed as third principal; however, he was unable to be present due to a considerable delay returning from holiday in Australia.
Both Andrew and Dennis were then installed as first and second principals. Richard Wood and Les Taylor-Duff delivered the robe addresses to the two principals, whilst the readings were given by Eric Delamere. Jeff Brookes gave the address to the officers and Peter Elmore, as expected, gave a faultless address to the companions.
Once Andrew was safely installed and the officers duly appointed and invested, Peter stood to bring the greetings of the Grand Superintendent Tony Harrison, who he said, would have been delighted to witness such a ceremony and particularly the work done by John Goodrum in such fine fashion. Peter went on to thank the new first principal Andrew and second principal Dennis for taking office, congratulating them on their appointments, also Robert Wood for continuing as third principal, as well as all the companions who had taken part. Peter also made reference to the excellent ceremony and congratulated Gwilym as DC.
Andrew responded by thanking Peter for his kind words. He was proud to present charitable donations totalling £460: £260 to West Lancashire Freemasons’ Charity, £100 to the Masonic Hall Fund and £100 to the Alzheimer’s Society. Peter thanked Andrew for the most generous donations, saying it was a credit to all the members who had generated such a magnificent amount for charity. He stated it would give him great pleasure in forwarding the donations to the beneficiaries and thanked everyone on their behalf.
Following the ceremony everyone enjoyed an excellent four course festive board provided by the Masonic hall catering staff. A raffle was held which generated a magnificent sum of £115 for charity.
