Brethren of Aughton Lodge No 7996, along with family and friends, held their first Family Fun Bowling Day of crown green bowling on a pleasant Saturday afternoon in July 2025 at the Saracens Head Bowling Club in Summerwood Lane, Halsall.

The bowling club’s greenkeeper Ian Tupling, a past master of Aughton Lodge, secured the green for the lodge to use and in doing so helping the bowling club with an income through the green fee. In total 25 members, family and friends attended the bowling day, including the Ormskirk and Bootle Group Chairman Stephen Dunn and his wife Paula, along with the master of the lodge John Doyle and his wife Jan.
The afternoon started with some instruction from Ian for those that had never bowled before, following this there was a short practice session for all to get to know the rules and the lay of the green. Once everyone was familiar of what to do, a buffet lunch was supplied by Gary O’Brien from O’Briens Tea Room’s in Ormskirk and a few drinks to settle the nervous before the tournament started.
After lunch, randomly picked teams competed against each other just for the fun of it and the pride to say that they were the winners. Everyone present said how enjoyable the afternoon was and that they were keen to do it all again when we next get the opportunity to get together.

A small sum for charitable donation at our September installation was raised, but the most important outcome from the day was the enjoyment, fun and memories made sharing good times with likeminded people.
