A Widows’ Sunday Luncheon at Leigh Masonic Hall: A heartfelt tribute to those wonderful wife’s, friends and partners of those Masons who have passed. The Leigh Group Care Officer Norman Hilton of the Lodge of Valour No 4322, along with his wife Audrey Hilton, organised a delightful Sunday afternoon event at Leigh Masonic Hall that was thoroughly enjoyed by all who attended. The gathering brought together many widows, accompanied by friends and brethren from across the newly formed Wigan and Leigh Group.

In attendance and offering their valued support were Ian Green, Chairman of the Wigan and Leigh Group, and his good lady Pauline, Mike Pinion of Atherton Lodge No 4488, Ron Coop from Lodge of Valour, Jim Sims Lodge of Truth Lodge No 6235 and Anthony Roe, Group Publicity Officer from Makerfield Lodge No 2155. David Gordon-Williams, a former Leigh Group Charity Steward and also of Makerfield Lodge, gave an informative talk on the role of Masonic charities and the support they provide within local communities.
The widows were treated to a delicious three-course meal, with wine available for those who wished. A convivial glass of wine rounded off the meal, shared among the ladies in a warm and friendly atmosphere. The afternoon also featured a well-received raffle that brought the usual mix of laughter and cheer.
Entertainment was kindly provided by Rob Mason, whose performance of traditional Lancashire songs evoked memories of times gone by. The audience thoroughly enjoyed his set, enthusiastically participating and singing along with many of the tunes.
Feedback from the event was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing deep appreciation for the thoughtful gathering. This cherished annual event serves as a meaningful gesture of respect and gratitude to the widows of departed Masons, recognising the support they gave during their loved ones’ Masonic journeys.
