On a glorious spring day some 70 members, friends and family of the Woolton Group met at Woolton Golf Club for another carvery lunch. Woolton Group Chairman Andy Whittle opened the event by thanking everyone for attending and informed the assembled that a raffle would be held and the proceeds would be given to LivPac (Liverpool Parent Carers) which is an organisation that meets on the first Tuesday of every month at the Dingle Community Learning Centre.
LivPac are carers of children with disabilities and special educational needs. Their aim is to involve and support parents and carers through working together, empowering each other and being advocates, but also working with professionals so that they can get improved access and better services for their children and families. Andy informed everyone that currently they are seeking financial support to improve their facilities and the money that will be provide from the raffle will go towards a multi-sensory room.
After the meal the attendees were entertained by Tony Cowley, a member of the Whisky Wooders, who is also a member Downshire Lodge No 594, with his guitar. Tony played a medley of well know songs and the diners joined in with the singing. During the entertainment, Tony asked the group chairman to accompany him, much to the delight of the diners! However, this was a ruse to get Andy on stage so that the assembled could sing ‘Congratulations’ for his forthcoming promotion to the grand rank of PAGDC. Tony had not requested a fee for his performance so a donation of £50 was given to him for his charity – Claire House, a children’s cancer charity based on Merseyside.
An excellent meal was enjoyed by all and the raffle raised £365 for LivPac.
