The lodge was honoured by the presence of Assistant Provincial Grand Master Tony Bent. Tony was accompanied by Geoff Bent, Chorley Group Chairman Peter Lockett and group secretary Don Hesketh, along with acting Provincial grand officers Derek Robinson and Stuart Wilson.

The master of Tyldesley Lodge Andy Parr opened the lodge and conducted the general business prior to receiving Tony Bent and his deputation.

At the outset of the ceremony, Andy explained that the lodge director of ceremonies Derek Bond had suffered a heart attack two weeks before the meeting. Andy wished Derek a swift recovery and thanked all the brethren, especially assistant director of ceremonies Swainson Eckerslely, for stepping up at such short notice.

Master elect Wilf Farnworth was presented by Mike Howard. Andy Parr then proceeded to install Wilf into the chair of the lodge in what was a very fine ceremony. The working tools of the third, second and first degrees were presented by three brethren in light blue, Lee White, Eddie Friar and Keith Royle respectively. The address to the master was delivered by Mike Howard, the address to the wardens was presented by Bernard Davenport and the address to the brethren of the lodge was presented by Tony Bent.

Tony Bent then brought congratulations from the Provincial Grand Master tony Harrison to Wilf, wishing him the good health to enjoy his year as master of this fine lodge. Tony congratulated Andy Parr for an excellent, word perfect ceremony. Tony then praised Swainson Eckersley for the fine job he had done in directing the lodge in such excellent fashion. Tony also congratulated the brethren in light blue for the way they had delivered the working tools.

Wilf’s first pleasant duty was to present cheques on behalf of the brethren of the lodge. Tony accepted them on behalf of the recipients saying that in these difficult times not only was the total extraordinary but the recipients had been carefully selected to support the local community.
