Members of Westhoughton Lodge No 4215 were honoured by the presence of Stephen Gregory who was representing the Provincial Grand Master Tony Harrison. Stephen was accompanied by John Robson, Duncan Smith and Peter Allen (group secretary).
Brethren and friends of the lodge had gathered to participate in the installation of Richard Reading into the chair of King Solomon. Richard was installed by Cyril Phelps, assisted by past masters of the lodge in a fine ceremony.
The working tools in the third, second and first degrees were presented in fine style by Jack Morton, Phil Spencer and Stuart Wilson respectively.
The address to the master was presented by Keith Holden, the address to the warden was delivered by Len Fairclough and the address to the brethren was presented by Stephen Gregory. The address to Stuart Wilson the almoner was made by Andrew Cogle.
Stephen congratulated Richard for becoming the newest ruler in the Craft and brought good wishes and hopes for good health and strength to enjoy the year as master from the Provincial Grand Master.
Stephen thanked the members of the lodge for their generous donations of £1,750 to the West Lancashire Freemasons’ Charity, £250 to Firwood School and £250 to the Friends of Ecclesholme; an impressive total of £2,250.
Following the installation 42 brethren sat down to a very enjoyable festive banquet at which the master’s song was sung by Andy Wiltshire who was in fine voice.
