The companions of Westhoughton Chapter No 4215 and their guests were treated to a unique ceremony, possibly the first of its kind, when no fewer than three members of the same family were exalted! Amongst those present was Assistant to the Provincial Grand Principals Tony Hall, along with grand officers Ken Shaw and Chairman of the Chorley and District Group Peter Locket.
First principal John Dowsett opened the chapter and conducted the rest of the general business prior to Scribe Ezra Michael Greenhalgh reading out the special dispensation to exalt more than two candidates. The ballot proved successful and John thanked those present for the confidence shown in his candidates.
Principal sojourner Derek English, ably assisted by Peter Hannis and Russell Green, and under the ever watchful gaze of director of ceremonies Phil Hallinan, retired to entrust the candidates. It was then the turn of James Grime (father) and his two sons David and Daniel to enter the chapter room and be exalted into the supreme degree in a superb, dignified and extremely well worked ceremony.
Gilbert Pierce was once again at his superb best in delivering the mystic lecture, whilst chapter mentor Alex Prescott had a full time job in delivering the mentors pack to all three candidates.
At the first rising Ken thanked all who had taken part and remarked on the success of what would appear to have been the first triple exaltation in the Province.
A very convivial festive board ensued with good food, good wine and very good company and an amount in excess of £200 was raised for Masonic charities. A wonderful night all round!
