45 brethren, including five worshipful masters from the Wigan Group, attended at Bryn Masonic Hall to witness the installation of Roy Hart into the chair of King Solomon of Vigilance and Douglas Lodge No 6236. Harry Cox, Assistant Provincial Grand Master, was pleased to officiate as principal guest on this occasion. Harry was accompanied by grand officers Malcolm Taylor (Wigan Group Chairman) and David Ogden, further supported by acting Provincial officers Eric Bailey and Ken Wilson.
Harry was treated to a wonderful ceremony, conducted on this occasion by the lodge’s ever reliable and talented stand in, Bob Heyes. Bob had stood in last year when misfortune had struck the WM of the lodge who had suffered a fall and sustained an injury to his arm and shoulder which had required surgery. Last year’s event was obviously good practice, judging by the dignity with which Roy was placed in the chair.
In something of a family occasion, Roy was presented by his brother Frank Hart. The working tools were presented in fine fashion by Alan Abbot, Bob Duff and Gary Jones. Following the ceremony Harry brought the greetings of the Provincial Grand Master, who he said, would have been delighted to witness such a fine installation and on his behalf both thanked and congratulated Roy on attaining the chair of this fine and historic lodge. Harry made special comment on the quality of the ceremony he had just witnessed, describing Bob’s efforts as absolutely word perfect. Congratulations were also given to the brethren who had presented the working tools. Harry was grateful to receive charitable donations from Roy on behalf of the lodge members consisting of two
cheques, one in favour of Ashton Masonic Properties for £350 and a second to West Lancashire Freemasons’ Charity for £500. All were then treated to a fine festive board.
