Since its formation in 1861, Chapter of Friendship No 241 has always offered a warm welcome to visiting companions and this welcome is just as strong now in 2018 as it has been through all those years.
For this year’s ceremony of installation, the chapter was opened by the acting first principal Don Evans, ably assisted by his co-principals, Stan Dawkins and Dougie Holgate. As soon as the normal business of the chapter had been completed the director of ceremonies Andy Whittle entered the room to announce the arrival of the principal guest of the evening, Assistant to the Provincial Grand Principals David Randerson. David was admitted in due form and formally welcomed to the chapter. On this occasion David was accompanied by the Vice Chairman of Liverpool Group David Kemp, esteemed grand officers Fred Hunter, Dave Anderton and Ian Gee and acting Provincial grand officers Dave Barr, Ian Black and John Gibbon.
David Randerson was warmly welcomed by the first principal, who expressed his wish, on behalf of the companions’ present, that he has a splendid evening. In response, David thanked Don for the warmth of his greeting and assured him that he was confident that the installation would go well and that he would definitely have a good evening.
In due course, Stan Dawkins was installed as first principal, Doug Holgate as second principal and Alan Ledger third principal. The installing work within the convocation was shared by the companions of the chapter, with special thanks going to Don Evans, Simon Gray and John Marsden. Following the investiture of the officers, David Randerson gave a wonderful address to the companions of the chapter.
Ian Gee gave an estimable scarlet robe address to Stan Dawkins, while Neil Francis delivered the purple robe address to Doug Holgate and Cliff Hughes the blue robe addresses to Alan Ledger; these two robe addresses were also exemplary in their performance.
Following the appointment of the chapter officers, David delivered the congratulations and best wishes of the Grand Superintendent Tony Harrison and felt sure that had he been present, Tony would have thanked all the participants for their contributions. The ceremony had gone particularly well and David said that he was delighted to see three principals installed who are new to their respective chairs and have not been re-cycled. I am sure they will help take the Chapter of Friendship forward from strength to strength. The chapter then advised David that a sum of £300 would shortly be deposited with the MCF 2021 Festival, for which he thanked the companions for their generosity.
There was a delightful festive board following the ceremony, during which David Randerson and Dave Barr responded to toasts to Supreme Grand Chapter and Provincial Grand Chapter respectively.
