The third degree for Michael

Visitors from far and wide joined the brethren of St Pauls Lodge No 5459 to witness Michael Lea being raised to the third degree. Master of the lodge Dave Berrington opened the lodge in due form and the principal guest, Assistant Provincial Grand Master Kevin Poynton was welcomed into the lodge and offered the gavel which he accepted by right, but it was as usual swiftly returned. Salutations were given and then Dave carried out the initial lodge business.

The lodge was opened in the second degree and Dave asked the requisite questions to which Michael gave the correct answers. After completing the initial part of the ceremony, Michael was invited to retire from the lodge for a short while to prepare for his journey to becoming a master Mason. During his absence, the lodge was opened in the third degree and the lodge room was made ready for the remainder of the ceremony. Michael returned to the lodge to commence his journey through to the third degree.

Michael was expertly escorted throughout the ceremony by the senior deacon Ian Morris who provided a steady and firm leadership. Ian was ably assisted by the junior deacon Ian Locke.

Dave gave an excellent performance in raising Michael to the sublime degree of a master Mason, after which Michael retired to restore himself to his personal comfort. At this point in the ceremony Dave asked David Clewes to occupy the master’s chair for the next part of the ceremony. David gave an excellent delivery of the traditional history and an explanation of the working tools of a master Mason. Following the performance, Dave reoccupied the master’s chair and directed that the minutes should record his thanks to David Clews and the officers who took part in the ceremony.

The lodge was closed accordingly and the brethren retired to the Peter Browne Suite to partake of an excellent buffet in the company of friends, old and new.
