The lights go out on Amity

The members and guests of Westhoughton Lodge of Amity No 7782 gathered for their regular meeting as they have done many times before, but then disaster struck!

It was 10 minutes before the meeting was due to start and Westhoughton suffered a power cut that took out all the power in the building. A quick phone call confirmed everyone’s worst fears that the power would be off for some time!

There was a rush to the lodge room to try and make use of what natural light remained, secondary lighting by way of small electric tea lights was provided and the candle lit meeting felt like a real throw back to bygone times.

The biggest cheer was left to the end of the meeting with the news from the kitchen that soup and sandwiches had been prepared thanks to Edwina, the hall manager, using the gas powered hob in her bungalow.

A fantastic and memorable evening was had by all and everyone dug deep into their pockets to raise a fantastic total of over £600 for good causes. Thanks are extended to all who supported the evening.

Big thanks to Edwina, Dave the chef and all the staff at Brookfield for the superb food they provided under difficult circumstances. It was very much appreciated.

The festive board in the main bar area, lit by candle light, allowed everyone to catch their thoughts and reminisce about old friends and times gone by. At the end of the evening everyone was happy at the way the evening turned out, it only went to making the event even more special.
