  • The planning for the Tercentenary started in October 2013 when the Board of General Purposes established a working party to prepare the ground and give the general direction the Tercentenary celebrations should take.

Three big events were planned in West Lancashire – the first two were services of celebration attended by the Provincial Grandd Master. The first was at  the Priory, Lancaster on Sunday 26 February 2017 and the second was at St Elphin’s Church, Warrington on 5 March 2017. The video above show the highlights of the service held in St Elphin’s Church,

The third is a celebration dinner with first class entertainment on 25 November 2017 at the Hilton Hotel in Blackpool.

In addition an historical timeline drama has been devised by Masons from the St Helens and Prescot Group and through a dramatic presentation of historical characters, it describes the parts the key players made in the development of Freemasonry in England.

Starting with Elias Ashmole in 1646, the drama continues to portray events and circumstances through to 1717 and on to the unification of the two Grand Lodges in 1813 – forming the United Grand Lodge of England.

The players are most willing to present this historical drama in any of the groups, to which they are invited. They have already accepted such an invitation from the Warrington Group to present the drama during their Heritage weekend event in September 2016, when the public at large will be able to watch the drama and see our history unfold for the first time.

I am delighted that several Group Chairmen have invited the team into their Groups and that Lodge’s have agreed to host the players and invite members of other Lodges in that Group to attend the presentation along with their family and friends.

During the coming months the events that are being planned by groups and lodges in the Province will be posted in this section of the website.

The UGLE celebration of 300 years will culminate with a special meeting of Grand Lodge to be held in the Royal Albert Hall on the afternoon of Tuesday 31 October 2017, followed by a dinner at Battersea Evolution.

Grand Masters of all Grand Lodges recognised by UGLE, along with Provincial Grand Masters and representatives of each Province and District will be in attendance.

Details have been sent out to all Brethren of how they can apply to attend this special meeting of Grand Lodge with our Provincial Grand Master and his senior officers.

This special meeting of Grand Lodge, will of course include the traditional elements, such as processions and addresses – In addition the meeting will be ‘called off’ for a theatrical extravaganza.

There will be opportunities to dine and take refreshments in the Royal Albert Hall. Some 2,000 Freemasons will then go on to Battersea Evolution, for a banquet – This will include a reception, wine with dinner, and drinks afterwards.

Brethren, 2017 presents us with an excellent opportunity to show the wider world what we are, what we do and how great a force for good is Freemasonry in this day and age.

If we get this message across to the public at large – and enjoy ourselves whilst doing so  – I believe the Brethren of this vast Province will turn the year 2017 into an unprecedented success.

I do hope that you will keep in touch by visiting this area of our website, and that you find it interesting and informative.
