The members of Astley and Ellesmere Lodge No 730 were honoured by the presence of Peter Bentham who represented the Provincial Grand Master the their installation meeting. Peter was accompanied David Arrowsmith and Peter Lockett group chairman.
Steve Grand was installed into the chair of King Solomon in fine style by Paul Snape and the rest of the installing team.
The working tools of an installed master were presented by John Lancaster, the third degree by Andy Turner, the second degree by Rob Winn and the first degree by Mark Briggs.
The address to the master was given by John Bicknell, that to the wardens by John Rhodes and the address to the brethren by Peter Bentham.
Steve had the pleasure of presenting grand lodge certificates to Kevin Taylor and Rob Winn.
Peter said that he was very please to bring congratulations and good wishes from the Provincial Grand Master Tony Harrison. Peter said that this had been an exemplary installation and that all those who had taken part in it should feel justifiably proud of their work this evening. He said special congratulation should go to Steve Grand for attaining the chair of King Solomon and to Paul Snape for the excellent manner in which he installed Steve. As these ceremonies do not just happen, Peter congratulated Derek Whittle and Ron Appleton DC and ADC.
Peter thanked the members of the lodge for there very generous donations of £2,985 consisting of: £1,985 to Chorley Masonic Hall, £600 to the West Lancashire Freemasons’ Charity, £200 to St Lawrence Church Christmas Meal appeal, £100 to the Manchester Donkey Sanctuary, £50 to North West Blood Bikes and £50 to Bowland Pennine Mountain Rescue.
The festive board was a very convivial affair with the master’s song being sung by Brian Flynn accompanied by Mike Hatton.
