It was a delight for Group Chairman Geoffrey Porter to welcome the first principal David Winder and his co-principals and officers of Setantia Chapter of First Principals No 7755 into the Wigan Group.
The meeting was held, by dispensation, at Bryn Masonic Hall and attracted around 80 companions for an interesting and informative event. Many senior members of the Royal Arch Province of West Lancashire are members of the chapter and attendees included Paul Renton, Deputy Grand Superintendent, his predecessor, Danny Jones and Ian Cuerden, Assistant to the Provincial Grand Principals with responsibility for the Wigan Group, and many, many more.
All assembled were there to witness a presentation authored by Paul Renton entitled; ‘The form of the chapter. Is it fit for
purpose?’ and were treated to a very informative and thought-provoking experience.
Paul described his role in proceedings as that of ‘roady’ and controlled the PowerPoint presentation and music that worked as a backdrop and gave structure to the readings and demonstrations central to the display.
It was an unusual opening to the chapter, as the familiar set-up was abandoned with a minimalist room awaiting the companions. Assisted by members of the chapter as readers and scene shifters, the chapter floor bit by bit took shape.
Each item of chapter furniture was described and explained and the traditional placements were discussed and alternatives explored and demonstrated.
There is no doubt that all attending made a profound advancement in Masonic knowledge, and the Wigan Group look forward to welcoming this wonderful chapter again.
