Finally, following a disappointing cancellation due to poor weather conditions, Sandra Walmsley completed her exhilarating zip wire fall in aid of charity.
Sandra is the wife of APrGM Dave Walmsley (who courageously stood by and watched Sandra risk her life) has been raising money for cancer research. This was Sandra’s second challenge following her previous skydive to raise money for this and other like causes.
Sandra was accompanied by her son Mike, who agreed to taking on this challenge with her. It was a cold and clear morning and the weather conditions were suitable for the ride.
Rising up to 500 foot before the decent covering a mile, Sandra and Mike were strapped onto parallel wires in a horizontal position then released for the exhilarating ride of a lifetime. They had little time to take in a bird’s eye view of surrounding Snowdonia as they plummeted down the disused quarry of Blaenau Ffestiniog reaching speeds of up to 120 miles per hour.
On reaching the bottom safely Sandra said that it was a great thrill for a worthy cause and would like to do it all over again. Sandra went on to say, “We, like many other families have been affected by cancer and thankfully so many lives have been extended due to the wonderful research and trials. The recent fire at The Christie Research Centre highlights even more the need to support this wonderful cause. One in two will be diagnosed with cancer at some stage making the demands on research even greater. This disease not only affects the patient but also those around them.”
To date Sandra has raised in excess of £1,600 for cancer research. Donations can still be made via the email you previously posted. Big thanks to all who have sponsored already.
