Almost 50 brethren gathered at Cleveleys Masonic Hall to witness Ron Senior being installed into the chair of Wayfarers Lodge No 7544. The lodge was honoured to receive Assistant Provincial Grand Master Tony Bent, supported by North Fylde Group Chairman Duncan Smith, group vice chairman Peter Greathead, and Herbert Macroberts, together with acting Provincial officers Peter Ridehalgh, John Bimpson, Alex Tomlinson, Gordon Ivett and Stuart Gay.
With the regular lodge business swiftly dispatched by the master Ian Hawtin, it was time to install the master elect. Ian proceeded to invite Bob Hopwod to act as installing senior warden, Andy Walch to act as installing junior warden and David Thornton to act as installing inner guard. Master elect Ron Senior was presented by his son, Ian.
Ron was ably and sincerely installed by Ian Hawtin, assisted by director of ceremonies Mick Thistlethwaite and the working tools were particularly well presented by Darren Varley, Joe Ayrton and Peter Gaudion. Ian Senior delivered a heartfelt address to his dad, which was followed by addresses to the wardens by Duncan Smith and to the brethren by Tony Bent.
At the conclusion of the installation ceremony Tony congratulated Ian on the manner in which he had installed Ron and expressed his wish for the master to have a happy and healthy year in office.
On behalf of the lodge, Ron presented Tony with nine cheques for charities with a magnificent combined total of £1,970, including £235 to Brian House hospice and £200 to Great Eccleston Friends of Cancer Research UK.
The brethren then enjoyed a superb festive board and were treated to a most humorous response from Tony Bent. It was noted that the lodge is looking forward to its April meeting when Keith Senior will be initiated by his grandfather Ron.
The toast to the newly made master was given by Ian Hawtin and the master’s song was rendered by Shaun Haynes. A raffle took place which raised £300 for charities. The Fylde Crowd Jewel was once again won by Tony Blundell, the master of Wyre Lodge No 7704. At the conclusion of a splendid evening the tyler’s toast was given by Ron Newton.
