Christopher Collins enjoys a very long and distinguished history in Freemasonry spanning seven decades, multiple lodges and two Provinces. Throughout his career he has shown a determined dedication to discharge his duties to the best of his ability, to help and support his fellow man and to further the principles and tenets of the Order.
He is a member of St George’s Lodge of Harmony No 32 and Compass Lodge No 7052, both in the Province of West Lancashire, and a founder member of Cae Glas Lodge No 8572 in the Province of Shropshire. In October 2021 he was able to celebrate, although somewhat muted due to COVID-19 restrictions, his 60 years anniversary in Freemasonry.
In February 2022 at the installation meeting of St George’s Lodge of Harmony, at which Deputy Provincial Grand Master Philip Gunning was present to observe Adam Scott installed in admirable fashion by Jonny Lowe, Christopher’s achievements were acknowledged and rewarded. Philip exercised his right to single out Christopher and promote him to the very well deserved and very high rank of Past Provincial Junior Grand Warden.
This was a wonderful surprise not only for Christopher but for all present and was received with great acclamation! Such an honour to be bestowed on a member at the installation meeting of his lodge is extremely rare and an occasion that will be a revered memory by all present.
Just nine days later, Christopher was attending Compass Lodge which was meeting by dispensation at Oswestry Masonic Hall in the Province of Shropshire, where David Hodgson was initiated into Freemasonry in a fine ceremony. The lodge was honoured by the presence of the Provincial Grand Master for that Province, Roger B Pemberton who was also accompanied by the Shropshire Provincial Grand Secretary Ian Edgington. The ceremony, conducted by the master David Potts, ably assisted by his wardens and officers of the lodge, was enjoyed by all and afterwards the assembled company retired to the dining room for an excellent meal.
It was during the toasts after dinner that Roger astounded and pleased all present, and in particular Christopher, by acknowledging the great contribution made over many years and that he was happy to be able to mark his achievements in Shropshire in particular, by promoting him to the rank of Past Provincial Senior Grand Warden for that Province with immediate effect. The assembled company reacted with great applause and confirmed their approval with cheers and extravagant and enthusiastic use of charging glasses.
This announcement was greeted with universal acclaim and rounded off a remarkable, if not unique, nine days in the life of Christopher Collins PPJGW (West Lancashire), PPSGW (Shropshire) – a remarkable man, in remarkable times.
