The worshipful master of Prince of Architects Lodge No 4188, Dr Morgan Denyer and his wife Rachel, recently welcomed their guests to their ladies night, held at the Masonic Hall in Litherland.

The evening commenced with everyone gathering in the bar and this being Prince of Architects, a very sociable lodge within the group, it proved very difficult to move the guests out of the bar for photographs.

Once everyone had arrived, the DC, Howard Minard, announced in his loudest voice that Morgan and Rachel would be pleased to greet all their guests in the dining room. When entering the room everyone was greeted by Morgan and Rachel, before going to their tables, which where beautifully decorated with floral arrangements and had mysterious packages of various sizes placed at each of the ladies places. Instructions were given that the packages were not to be opened yet, but there was much surreptitious shaking of the packages in an attempt to guess the contents. The room looked superb and was accredit to all who had carried out the decorations.

When all the guests were placed, Morgan and Rachel were welcomed to their seats amid tumultuous applause. An excellent three course meal was then served with a choice of soups to start, followed by roast beef and Yorkshire pudding or salmon as the main course and a choice of deserts, including sticky toffee pudding, fruit salad or fruit tart; a meal which all enjoyed.

After the meal the formal toasts were undertaken with that to The Queen, Duke of Lancaster followed by the toast to ‘The Ladies’ by Paul Shirley.

In her response to the toast and on behalf of the ladies, Rachel thanked all those who had helped organise the evening and asked the ladies to open their gifts, revealing that each of the ladies had been given a silver bracelets to mark the occasion, a most generous and beautiful gift. Rachel pointed out, although Masonry is male, it’s the ladies who are the support, after all saying: “Everybody remembers the wonderful dancing of Fred Astaire, but not everybody remembers Ginger Rodgers did the same steps going backwards wearing high heels.”

The festive atmosphere continued late into the night with the band for the evening ‘The Riot Squad,’ with the guests dancing away to a variety of songs from different eras, with dance instructions from the band. It was a very memorable night for Rachel and Morgan, a very special couple who did a superb job for the ladies night.
