The Donna’s Dream House Charity in Blackpool is a locally based trust providing free holiday experiences for children and teenagers with life-threatening illnesses and their families, and for recently bereaved siblings and their families.
Whilst the voluntary team of Donna’s Dream House provides the expertise, enthusiasm and administration, it is the generosity of many companies, organisations and individuals in raising and donating money that makes it possible to bring not only sunshine and fun into children’s lives, but a sense of wonder, adventure, laughter and a much-needed holiday in Blackpool for the whole family.
When Ian Parkinson became master of Pilling Lodge No 7879 in May 2016 the cause of Donna’s Dream House touched him deeply and he immediately set out to make his year in office one of securing as much funding as possible for this inspiring local charity.
The incredible result of Ian’s single-minded pursuit of this aim became apparent on the occasion of the opening of Donna’s Dream House refurbished accommodation when, in the presence of local radio, television and civic leaders, Ian presented Len Curtiss MBE the founder of the Dream House (and the late Donna’s Father) with a cheque for £36,755.
Not content with this amazing achievement, however, Ian also presented Len with the keys to an eight-seater minibus which will be loaned to the charity, fuelled, insured and serviced, for an initial period of 12 months.
Responding to the presentation, and almost overcome with emotion, Len was fulsome in his thanks and praise to Ian in particular and Pilling Lodge and Freemasonry in general for their wonderful and generous support in helping to make dreams come true for deserving children and their families.
