The brethren of Pharos Lodge No 7421 were delighted to receive APrGM David Walmsley to their installation evening. David was accompanied by distinguished grand officers, Harry Cox, North Fylde Deputy Group Chairman Tony Hough and Neil MacSymons who were also joined by acting Provincial grand officers John Hall, Jason Dell and John Pitches.
Peter Draper’s skilfully dispatched the initial business in the lodge as the outgoing and installing master and, moving to the second degree the director of ceremonies Dennis Smith retired. Peter then opened in the third degree at which point Dennis returned to announce that David Walmsley was without and demanded admission.
The procession of grand and acting Provincial grand officers accompanying David was conducted to perfection by Dennis and once this was done and David and his entourage was seated Peter rose to formally welcome him.
Peter proceeded to install the new master Brian Crawford into the chair of the lodge in a sincere fashion. In fact all those who took part in the ceremony performed like a well-oiled machine. The delivery of the third degree working tools was done by Ian Glass, while Liam Burns expertly delivered the long version of the second degree tools and, last but not least, Paul Troughton presented the first degree tools.
The address to the master was delivered by Gregory Grove, that to the wardens by Jeffrey Smith and the address to the deacons by the lodge’s hard working DC Dennis Smith. Jason Dell’s address to the stewards was flawless. The presentations and addresses were completed by the address to the brethren by David Walmsley.
At the completion of the installation David Walmsley rose to bring the best wishes of Tony Harrison the Provincial Grand Master to Brian and said that he was sure that he would have been delighted to congratulate the installing master Peter Draper and all the brethren who had taken part in the ceremony.
As the newly installed master, Brian’s first duty was to present cheques for £200 to the 2021 Masonic Charitable Foundation and £200 to the Alzheimer’s Society to David Walmsley. In return David thanked the brethren of Pharos Lodge for their generous donations.
Later in the evening at the festive board David, in response to the toast to the grand officers, congratulated the new master and wished him a good year. He also congratulated the brethren who had presented the tools and picked out the organist David Brown for his tuneful contribution to the evening.
Next, David mentioned the 2021 Festival and said that West Lancashire donated over £5,000,000 to the Masonic Charitable Foundation and in return received £6,500,000.
David also thanked North Fylde Group Vice Chairman John Cross for his speech in the lodge as the Royal Arch representative and said that it was something that he was going encourage to his group. David finally said that Masonic halls should be given as much support as possible and said that Fleetwood Masonic Hall was a superb example of that support.
The master’s song was rendered by the hard-working secretary of the lodge John Darrell accompanied by Dave Brown whose tunes throughout the ceremony provided the perfect backdrop to the ceremony.
The raffle held at the festive board raised £261, the proceeds of which will go to the almoner’s fund. The evening was brought to a fitting close by Ian Glass’ delivery of the tyler’s toast.
