David Ogden had not travelled far to Bryn Masonic Hall to attend the installation of Arrowhead Lodge of Freedom No 8500, being a local Mason and group vice-chairman, but was delighted to be the representative of the Provincial Grand Master at this special occasion for the lodge, the Master being a longstanding friend. He was accompanied by fellow grand officers John Roberts, Alec Sharp and Graeme Hughes and supported by John Selley, the group secretary. Also in attendance were the three acting officers from the group, Alan Johnston, Peter Ridehalgh and John Bimpson.
David was not to witness the ‘normal’ installation ceremony, as Paul O’Brien, the current master, was proclaimed as WM for another year. Being a proclamation did not detract from the nature and solemnity of the occasion, and everyone involved did a splendid job. Such events could be short and quite plain affairs, there being no specific guidelines for a proclamation, but the event was made special for Paul.
The working tools were delivered in fine style by junior brethren David Hatton, John Turner and Steve Calderbank. The address to the master was delightfully delivered by Bert Stockley, the address to the wardens by Keith Hayton and the representative of the Provincial Grand Master delivered an impeccable address to the brethren.
Congratulating everyone on a fine evening, David Ogden was pleased to receive charitable donations as follows: £300 for the Alzheimer’s Society, £300 in favour of the Sefton Veterans, £300 to Macmillan Nursing and £300 for the Masonic Hall development group.
The newly proclaimed master is an experienced Mason, holding the rank of PPrSGD. He was initiated into Arrowhead Lodge over 30 years ago, and served as master for the first time in 1999.
