The members of Coronation Chapter of Westhoughton No 7258 were honoured by the presence of Second Provincial Grand Principal Peter Elmore at their installation meeting. Peter was accompanied by Dave Harrison, Tony Hall, (on his first outing as acting Provincial Grand Scribe Nehemiah), group chairman Peter Lockett, Ian Higham and acting Provincial grand officers.
The three principals elect were presented by Michael Harrison and Andy Wiltshire then proceeded with the installation. Peter Allen was installed as first principal, Philip Hardman as second principal and Jeremy Dootson as third principal.
As with many chapters, the ritual can be different and in Coronation chapter it is very different. There was more than a little confusion when Andy demanded a ‘passport’ but settled for a password – it was surprising how many visitors were present with the unusual passwords used by the chapter.
The crimson robe address was delivered by Tony Cottam; the purple robe address was presented by Derek McKee and the blue robe address by Kevin Clutton.
Ian Higham, Provincial Grand Director of Ceremonies, addressed the chapter’s director of ceremonies Michael Harrison with the abbreviated version of the DC job spec, ‘the buck stops with you!’ The address to the almoner was delivered by Peter Lockett and that to the charity steward by Mark Howard.
The address to the principals was presented by Peter Hegarty, that to the officers by Tony Cottam and to the companions by Peter Elmore, all under the watchful eye of director of ceremonies Michael Harrison and assistant director of ceremonies Malcolm Lunt.
Peter Elmore thanked the chapter for the very generous donation of £500 to the West Lancashire Freemasons’ Charity on behalf of the ultimate recipients.
Peter said it had been a fantastic ceremony and a delight to see friends working together and enjoying themselves. He thanked everyone for taking their offices and wished them the good health to enjoy them.
With the installation ceremony complete the companions retired to the festive board at which the principals’ song was sung by Dave Harrison accompanied by Peter Lockett. The festive board ended a very enjoyable and memorable evening with good food, good wine and especially good company.
