At the Annual General Meeting of the Ormskirk Ladies Group two cheques were presented to the members nominated charities; £400 to the Ormskirk Hospital Neonatal Baby Unit and £100 to the Ormskirk Masonic Hall Building Fund. Diane Hampson (chairperson), Brenda Hewitt (secretary) and Beryl Patterson (treasurer) reported on another excellent year.
Karen Wareing Ward Manager attended on the evening and was delighted to accept the cheque on behalf of the Neonatal Unit. Karen gave a brief insight into how the unit provides specialist care for babies who are born prematurely and thanked the members for their kind generosity and said that the money is much appreciated and would be put to good use.
Frank Umbers, Ormskirk and District Group Chairman, was pleased to receive a cheque for £100 on behalf of the Ormskirk Masonic Hall Building Fund. In responding Frank thanked the ladies saying how pleased he was that they are once again making the hall their home. He went on to say that during the summer a refurbishment is to be undertaken in the upstairs lounge and said that this money would be put towards those improvements.
Following the meeting the members enjoyed a tasty fish and chip supper rounded of by a naughty but nice strawberry and sherry trifle.
The members of Ormskirk Ladies Group are extremely proud of their achievements in raising money and supporting many local good causes and national charities. During the last year the ladies have donated a further £325 in gratitude to the speakers at their meetings. The beneficiaries have included; £100 to Home Start, £30 to British Red Cross, £30 to Walking with Giants, £30 to National Gardens, £30 to Spinal Injuries Care, £25 to Ormskirk History Society, £30 Police Widows and Orphans Fund and £50 Alder Hey Childrens’ Hospital. All money is raised through the generosity of its members who kindly donate raffle prizes each month.
The group has a full and varied programme for the next 12 months which includes speakers on a wide range of subjects; delights to come include a visit from Graham and Janet Walton (parents of the sextuplets), a talk on the Chelsea Flower Show and The North West Blood Bikes.
The group extends a warm welcome to wives, partners and widows of Freemasons of the Ormskirk and District Group of Lodges and Chapters and also to friends of members who regularly attend.
