The switching on of the Christmas lights at Ormskirk on Sunday 22 November also saw a successful Christmas Fayre at Ormskirk Masonic Hall. The event was enjoyed by many Masons and their families, together with members of the public and raised around £1,300 towards the upkeep and maintenance of the Hall. Santa’s Grotto was cheerfully manned by Bill Murphy, as our usual Father Christmas Don Carlton had injured his arm falling off his sleigh Oh! So sorry! – mobility scooter.

A well-organised team from Ormskirk Ladies, ably led by Brenda Hewitt and Diane Hampson, their chair and vice-chair respectively, ran stalls including ‘Guess the name of the teddy’, the ‘Birthday of Katie the Carrot’, ‘how many sweets in the jar’ and ‘the weight of the Christmas cake’, as well as selling books, games and toys. Sarah Gibson worked hard organising the raffle and the tombola.
A lovely selection of Christmas cards, decorations and crackers were hand-made and sold by Margaret and John Rogers, whilst Rita Johnson ran a lucky dip. Body Shop products were available from Evonne Pellow.
Fun activities included a 10 second challenge by Mike Dutton, a card game by Mike Trigg and a steady-hand wire loop buzzer game by Lilly and Richard. The ever-popular reindeer race was marshalled by group chairman Graham Chambers – and not always won by Rudolph! Ann Chamber’s, Rocher robins proved a tasty treat.
Excellent value festive refreshments were available as usual from Gary and his team.
