The lodge DC Peter Gaskin announced that Assistant Provincial Grand Master Kevin Poynton was without and demanded admission. Kevin was accompanied by other grand officers and Woolton Group Chairman Andy Whittle together with Provincial stewards and deacons. Kevin processed into the lodge and was greeted by John and on being offered the gavel said that his intention was to enjoy himself and had pleasure in returning it to John.

Kevin was saluted and duly responded, grand officers were saluted and Peter Connolly responded. John then asked selected brethren to assist him with the remainder of the ceremony and requested Peter Saunders to occupy the SW’s chair, Peter Connolly to occupy the JW’s chair and Rick Thompson to act as IG. The lodge was adjourned from the third degree to the second.

Mike Cunliffe (group secretary) presented the master elect Jeremy Clitherow, who had been WM in 1983. After Jeremy had taken his obligation, John asked the brethren of the lodge to stand and thanked them for their help, encouragement and support during his year as WM and wished them well for the ensuing year. Jeremy Clitherow was then installed into the chair of King Solomon in due form. MMs were readmitted and saluted the newly installed master and the working tools were presented by Mike Mansfield-Corbett. FCs were readmitted and the working tools were presented by Grenville Jefferies and finally, the EAs were readmitted and Mike Cunliffe presented the working tools.

John McGibbon faultlessly gave the address to the master, the address to the wardens was presented by Andy Whittle and Jeremy Clitherow gave the address to the deacons. In traditional manner Kevin Poynton delivered the address to the brethren.

The ceremony of installation being ended Kevin rose and on behalf of the Provincial Grand Master congratulated the newly installed master wishing him a happy year in office and also said: “If the PrGM had been present he would have paid tribute to the installing master for the work delivered.” Continuing, Kevin said that he was commanded by the Provincial Grand Master to wish everyone in the lodge a very happy year and hoped that they will continue to enjoy their Freemasonry.

Jeremy rose and presented a cheque in the sum of £750 for the WLFMC to Kevin, who accepted it with grateful thanks, not on behalf of the charities but on behalf of those whose lives will be improved. Kevin also pointed out that if the money was gift aided a further sum of £150 would be added and this shows the advantages of gift aiding.

Peter Connolly rose, together with other grand officers, to inform the WM and brethren that two members present were to be honoured by the Grand Master at the next meeting of Grand Lodge, namely group chairman Andy Whittle who is to receive the grand rank of PAGDC and Kevin Poynton who will be promoted to PSGD, to the rapturous applause from the assembled brethren.

The new lodge DC Mike Mansfield-Corbett formed the recession and Kevin, accompanied by grand officers and the group chairman, retired from the lodge. The meeting was then closed and all the brethren retired to the festive board.
