On a glorious summer’s afternoon, 67 ladies of the Southport Group Wives and Widows Luncheon Club gathered at Southport Masonic Hall, Duke Street, for their traditional annual afternoon tea.
The ladies were entertained by local pianist Sam Jones, who played tunes from the shows and relaxing classical music.
The hall caterer, Wayne Warhurst, provided a sumptuous assortment of sandwiches, homemade cakes, all topped off by scones with strawberries and cream. Tea, coffee and the occasional glass of wine accompanied the traditional afternoon tea.
The club chairman, June Thompson commented: “I am delighted with the high number of members and their guests who have attended and of course the delicious afternoon tea.” She went on to thank the hall manageress Julie McGee and her team for their continued support to the club.
The ladies meet every second Wednesday, October to May. New members are always welcome. Any Southport Group wives and widows interested in joining the luncheon club can contact the secretary Debbie Matthews in writing, care of Southport Masonic Hall, Duke Street, Southport, Merseyside PR8 1LS.
