Kingsway Chapter installation

The companions and guests of Kingsway Chapter No 7870 met for the installation ceremony of Paul Smith as their new first principal, with their meeting being held at the Widnes Masonic Hall. For the occasion, the chapter was delighted to have Colin Rowling as the representative of the Grand Superintendent Tony Harrison.

The chapter being duly opened, the director of ceremonies Brain Horabin formed the procession into the lodge of Colin Rowling accompanied by other grand and acting Provincial officers.

The first principal Jack Thompson welcomed Colin to the convocation and hoped that he would have an enjoyable evening, both at the convocation and the festive board. Jack then proceeded to present two cheques to the value of £100 for the Masonic Charitable Foundation 2021 Festival and £100 for the Widnes Masonic Hall Development fund. Colin thanked the companions of Kingsway Chapter for their generosity.

The three elected principals, Paul Smith as first principal, Bob Bazley as second principal and Derek Jones as third principal were presented by Brian Horabin and duly obligated to their respective chairs. The scripture readings were given by Trevor Price, Bob Williams and David Clews respectively.

First principal Paul Smith was installed by Jack Thompson, second principal Bob Bazley by Paul Smith and the third principal Derek Jones by Bob Bazley. The robe addresses to the principals were delivered by Bob Williams, John Prince and Jack Thompson who also presented the warrant of the chapter; all of whom gave an excellent and faultless presentation.

The address to the three principals was delivered in an excellent and sincere manner by Davis Clewes, followed by the address to the companions, being delivered in equal manner by Colin Rowling.

Once the principals had been installed into their respective chairs and the officers installed for the forthcoming year, Colin rose on behalf of the Grand Superintendent and congratulated everyone who had taken part in an excellent ceremony. Following the conclusion of the convocation the members and guests retired to enjoy an excellent festive board in the Alan Locke Suite.

In response to the toast to his health, Colin brought his own congratulations to the principals wishing them a healthy and happy year in office and also congratulated the installing first principal Jack Thompson, the director of ceremonies Brian Horabin and the companions who had assisted in delivering an admirable and enjoyable ceremony. He then moved on to offer his thanks for the support shown by grand officers Alan Locke and David Redhead and acting Provincial officers Alan Jones, Peter Blease and George Fletcher. He was also delighted to have the company of the three Widnes Group officers, chairman Neil Pedder, vice chairman Norman Speed and secretary John Gibbon.

Colin recommended to the companions who had not yet seen, ‘A Timeline Drama and Pageant’ that they should try and attend; the next performance being hosted by Warrington Masonic Hall on 4 May 2017. He went on to make mention of the many tercentenary events taking place throughout the Province, following which he commented on the work done by the Provincial Care Team in helping those less fortunate than ourselves. He stated that the Masonic Charitable Foundation had made grants for the year totalling £14,200,000 to Masonic families, £4,900,000 to community projects and not forgetting the £500,000 emergency grant to the East African Famine Relief Project.

Responding to the toast to the principals by Jack Thompson, Paul thanked Colin and all the companions for attending and making it a memorable evening for him and his co-principals. He announced that the alms plate raised £42.14 and the raffle raised £42 for the Masonic Charitable Foundation 2021 Festival.
