The Wigan and Chorley Groups joined forces to stage a joint lodge and chapter Ladies Evening. The link that brought them together was a shared interest in cancer.

Sincerity Lodge No 3677 from the Wigan Group and Standish Chapter No 4955 from the Chorley Group held a joint Ladies Evening at Bryn Masonic Hall and the proceeds raised would be going to cancer charities.

The WM of Sincerity Lodge, Chris Furmston sadly lost his wife Dewina on Christmas Day 2016 after a long and brave fight against myeloma. Emma, the wife of the first principal of Standish Chapter Malcolm Bell, is currently being treated by the Christie. Malcolm is also the Provincial Deputy Grand Director of Ceremonies for the Royal Arch in the province of West Lancashire Province.

The evening was supported by 96 guests who thoroughly enjoyed the event and raised £933, which was divided between Malcolm and Chris. Chris donated £453 to myeloma and Emma donated £240 to the Christie and £240 to Maggie’s, a centre close to the Christie where patients can go while waiting for treatment to relax and escape the hospital environment. They also provide help, advice and support for patients.

Emma, Malcolm and Dave Walmsley APrGM for the Eccles Group and South Eastern Group, (who is also receiving treatment at the Christie), attended the Christie and Maggie’s to present the cheques. Ruth Tobi (Maggie’s fundraiser coordinator) thanked Emma, Malcolm and Dave for their kind donation.

Jackie Connell (cancer research nurse) and Heather Brookfield (Christie fundraiser coordinator) were deeply indebted to the donation from Emma, Malcolm and Dave.

Dave said: “It was a privilege to be with Emma and Malcolm to help officiate at such a worthy cause.”
