James Harvey Battle became the newest member of Goodwill Lodge No 3896 in an excellent and sincere ceremony performed by the WM John Horn. The Widnes Group Chairman Neil Pedder was in attendance to witness the proceedings along with over 30 brethren and guests
The lodge was opened by John, who then conducted the normal business of the lodge which included the successful ballot for James.
Having been prepared for the ceremony, James was then admitted into the lodge room and was guided through the initiation ceremony by the junior deacon Paul Smythe in a most reassuring and composed manner that put the candidate at ease. Paul was ably assisted by the senior deacon Bill Isherwood. A fine explanation of the working tools of the first degree was given by the IPM Paul Smith.
James was then presented with the book of constitutions and the by-laws of the lodge before retiring from the lodge to restore himself to his personnel comfort and on his return to the lodge the ancient charge was delivered by the DC Lewis Redhead, in an exemplary manner.
The initiation ceremony being completed the WM John, announced there was another pleasant duty to perform and invited David Redhead to present Neil Jenkinson with his Grand Lodge Certificate after which Neil duly signed it.
The lodge was closed in due form and the brethren then retired to the Peter W Browne Suite for the festive board.
The toast to James was given by Paul Whitelam who welcomed him into the lodge and hoped he has many happy years in Freemasonry. The brethren were then asked to stand and sing the apprentice song which was led by Norman Pritchard.
Paul responded by thanking the WM and brethren in making him welcome and for a very memorable night and that he would be making a daily advancement in Freemasonry.
