On a night that was filled by so many esteemed guests, it was Derek Robinson who stole the spotlight, being installed for the first time as first principal of Horwich Chapter No 2324.

Derek was not alone in taking his respective office for the first time, as his fellow principals elect were taking their respective principal office for the first time as well.
Principal guest for the evening was Jonathan Heaton, who was visiting as representative to the Grand Superintendent Mark Matthews. Also in attendance was Assistant to the Provincial Grand Principals Paul Hesketh, group chairman Peter Allen and grand officers Ken Shaw, Ian Higham, Malcolm Warren, Peter Lockett, Stewart Seddon, Dave Harrison and Frank Wilkinson. The grand officers were accompanied by acting Provincial grand officers Kevin Byrne and Steve Dutson.
In a well-attended conclave, Derek was installed by Peter Rees in fantastic style, with Rodger Sherlock then being installed as second principal by Derek, followed by Rodger installing Bryn Hart as third principal.
During the installation, Jonathan Heaton, was pleased to accept cheques as charitable donations from Horwich Chapter for a total of £1,200. Jonathan thanked the companions of the chapter for their generosity.
The cheques were split between the following charities; £200 to West Lancashire Freemasons’ Charity, £200 to Royal National Lifeboat Institution, £200 to Bolton Hospice, £200 to Derian House Children’s Hospice, £350 to Horwich Masonic Hall and £50 to Firwood School. Horwich Chapter had previously donated £150 to the group food bank appeal also.
The chapter’s companions and guests were invited to join the principals downstairs for a wonderful festive board where Dave Harrison sang the principals’ song to welcome the three principals to their new offices.
The whole evening was one to remember, with excellent ritual, good company and the warmest of welcomes to the guests.
