If music be the food of love, play on

Ormskirk Masonic Hall was transformed into a magical venue to celebrate St Valentine’s Day with romantic candle light, a profusion of red roses, soft music playing in the background and the aroma of a mouth-watering meal wafting from the kitchen.

This is what awaited the 94 members and guests of Ormskirk Group of Lodges and Chapters participating in this romantic evening event. Ken Hives and Stewart Cranage, with the help of the members of Mersey Lodge No 5199 and the hall caters, had once again exceled in providing the perfect ambiance for the occasion.

The menu was outstanding with everyone’s tastes catered for with a choice of starters, French onion soup, duck spring rolls, wild mushrooms or smoked salmon. The main meal consisted of sirloin steak, mushroom wellington, red snapper or rack of lamb, followed by a choice of chocolate orange mousse, cherry compote, cheesecake or blackcurrant delight finished off with a magnificent cheese board.

The ladies all received a complimentary raffle ticket for the chance to win a romantic cuddly toy and a bottle of bubbly. A bumper raffle was also held to raise funds for the group which brought a cheer or two from the guests on the winning tables.

No evening such as this would be complete without exceptional entertainment and this was provided by the sultry voice of Lenny Chesworth, whose comedic quips between belting out such classic love songs as ‘I left my heart in San Francisco’, ‘Fly me to the moon’ and ‘All of me’  had everyone in a romantic mood.

Dancing continued into the early hours and a very enjoyable evening was had by one and all.

A romantic evening with excellent food and great company.
