Ian Alderson has been installed into the chair of King Solomon at the installation meeting of Shalom Lodge No 7541 held at Southport Masonic Hall.
After the opening of the lodge by WM Robert Beaver and the usual business being completed, DC Mike Swift retired from the lodge and on his return announced that Trevor Rimmer, the representative of the of the Provincial Grand Master was outside the lodge and seeks admittance. Robert responded that the lodge members would be very happy to receive him; Trevor was then admitted.
On this occasion Trevor was accompanied by Shalom’s grand lodge officers Geoff Bloch, Colin Ryan and Mike Braham and supported by Southport Group Chairman Colin Jenkins.
Robert than asked all those below the degree of a fellowcraft to retire and the lodge was opened in the second degree. The master elect Ian was then presented to Robert by Medhi Farahi and Ray Roukin. Ian affirmed his unqualified assent and support of the essential ancient charges and regulations and was then placed before the WM pedestal where he recited his obligation with respect to his duties as master of the lodge.
All brethren below the degree of a master Mason were then asked to retire and the lodge was opened in the third degree. Robert then requested all those under the rank of an installed master to withdraw for a short period and a board of installed masters was opened. Ian was given the grip and words of an installed master and according to ancient custom installed into the chair of King Solomon, in what, everyone agreed was an excellent ceremony, well executed by Robert who was very ably assisted by the officers of the lodge.
The brethren were then admitted by rank and Ian was proclaimed master of Shalom Lodge for the ensuing year. The third degree working tools were presented by Mike Braham, the second degree working tools by David Marcus and the first degree working tools by Jonny Becker.
The ceremony of appointing and investing officers being completed was the cue for Adrian Fletcher to deliver the address to the WM, which was followed by Mike Braham addressing the wardens, David Marcus addressing the deacons, Medhi Farahi the address to the inner guard and finally the distinguished guest Trevor Rimmer giving a very clear and eloquent address to brethren of the lodge.
After the ceremony and before closing the lodge, Trevor brought greetings from the Provincial Grand Master Tony Harrison, congratulating Ian on being installed in the master’s chair for the first time and hoped he would enjoy his year in office, Trevor complimented Robert and also congratulated the officers who took part in what was very enjoyable ceremony. Ian then presented Trevor with cheques totalling £1,750 supporting Southport Masonic Hall Foundation, West Lancashire Freemasons’ Charity, Southport Soup Kitchen, Queenscourt Hospice and Derian House. Trevor thanked Ian and the members of Shalom Lodge for their generosity on behalf of the recipients.
After the ceremony, the festive board was attended by over 40 brethren who were all in high spirits and enjoyed a fine meal respecting the founders’ traditions and guidance laid out in the Shalom bye laws. Newly appointed Assistant Provincial Grand Master Robert Wright was in the building on other business and took the opportunity to pop in and informally take wine with Ian and meet the brethren.
To end the evening’s festivities Ian thanked everyone who had attended and took part in the ceremony and mentioned that the collection and the raffle raised over £200 for the charities.
