In those beautiful days before lockdown, a charity comedy night was hosted by Garstang Lodge No 6633 which raised £6,050 with over 90 people in the audience at Wyrebank Masonic Hall.
In addition to the takings from the admission fee, Masons were particularly generous in supporting a raffle and charity auction with prizes that included a helicopter flight and Chairman of the Lancaster Group Neil McGill’s season tickets for the Manchester derby.
Colin Richmond, a past master of Garstang Lodge, requested that the funds be donated to the Lancaster and Morecambe Deaf Children’s Society (LAMDCS), a charity that the lodge have supported for a number of years. The cheque was presented to Mark Sarjent, the Chairman of LAMDCS with Lancaster Group Chairman Neil McGill, group vice chairman Scott Devine, former group chairman Jim Wilson and Michel Fleet, the current WM, also in attendance.
At the presentation of the cheque, Mark Sarjent said: “We are overwhelmed by their continued generosity. The LAMDCS is a small, local, parent-led charity and this money means so much as it ensures the charity has enough to cover running costs and also allows us to look into further opportunities to achieve the charity’s primary aim – to help deaf children to overcome the barriers that may hold them back and enable them to grow up as confident, independent individuals.”
LAMDCS are a parent-led group who have been supporting deaf children for over 10 years and provide confidence-building activities. They also offer support and advice to parents/carers and their families. To learn more about this charity, click here to visit their website.
The money received will mean that the deaf children will be able to be taken on trips tailored to their needs such as a visit to a planetarium in a low light environment rather than in pitch black so they can see the conductor of the tour and gain the information about the stars and beyond. So, what started with a laugh at a comedy night ended with a cheer from grateful deaf children and staff – thanks to Colin and everyone who attended the event.
