The Provincial Food Bank Appeal has been well supported throughout West Lancashire and the Liverpool Group has again proved to be a substantial contributor. The nominated food bank for the Liverpool Group for the second year running was Micah Liverpool, which is based quite close to the Anglican Cathedral in Liverpool City centre.
Micah Liverpool is more than just a food bank. It operates a social justice charity that has been set up by Liverpool Cathedral, Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King and St Bride’s Church to relieve Liverpool residents from social injustice and poverty. It is currently running projects to combat unemployment and deliver affordable food and, when needed, emergency food aid also. The food bank pantry sessions, which operate twice a week are open to anybody in need and Micah will provide an emergency food parcel once a week, for four weeks. If after this period further support is needed, evidence shall be required.
Similar to last year, the response was tremendous and Liverpool Group Chairman Dave Johnson was able to hand over a combined donation of £4,382.40 from the Freemasons of Hope Street; without doubt a truly remarkable amount and a fantastic example of the great work done by them for the greater good of society. Once again, the Liverpool Group shines out as a beacon in terms of charitable giving and generosity.
Paul O’Brien, representing Micah Liverpool and his staff, were again simply overwhelmed by the number of items donated, expressing their sincere gratitude on behalf of those families and individuals that would ultimately benefit.
