A group weekend away for the Eccles and District Group was arranged by Harry Cropper for a stay in the attractive, cosmopolitan town of Harrogate. 46 brethren, spouses and friends all checked in at the St George Hotel situated in the centre of the town and 50 yards away from the famous Betty’s Café Tea Rooms.
This attractive stone-fronted Edwardian hotel is an iconic building in the centre of Harrogate, with an enviable location with superb facilities for both business and leisure and proved to be an ideal location to cater for all. The facilities in the hotel included a swimming pool, spa, sauna, steam room and fitness room with a weights room for those who wanted more vigorous exercise.
Guests arrived on the Friday looking forward to a weekend of relaxation and to take in the sights in and around Harrogate. The highlight of the weekend was at the Saturday evening meal which was followed by a disco provided by Tom Todhunter that included a vast array of music to suit all and encourage everyone to get on the dance floor and strut their stuff.
Eccles and District Group Chairman Dave Walmsley thanked Harry for organising the event and presented Harry’s wife Chris with a bouquet. He gave thanks Tom for providing the music and to all who attended to support the group. Dave said that it has been some time since the last group weekend and was hopeful that word would get back to encourage more to attend in the future.
Dave said that the evening was very successful as during the evening there was a stand up bingo and a raffle to raise money for charity which raised the sum of £160. This money is to go to a charity yet to be decided by Dave.
