Over 100 brethren assembled at Cleveleys Masonic Hall to witness David Edwards being installed into the chair of Anchorsholme Lodge No 5854.
For the installation the lodge was delighted to receive Assistant Provincial Grand Master Robert Wright, supported by fellow Assistant Provincial Grand Master Harry Cox and grand officers Jack Coates, North Fylde Group Chairman Duncan Smith, Peter Greathead, Keith Jackson, Ian Ward, David Thomas, John Turpin, Keith Kemp, Tony Hough and Geoffrey Pritchard. Also in attendance were acting Provincial grand officers Thomas Bradfield-Kay, Peter Rumley, Philip Houldsworth, Michael Dutton, David Scott, Eric Hart, Godfrey Hirst, Jim Finnegan and Daren Gardner.
With the regular lodge business dispatched by the master Paul Darlington, it was time to invite David Rowbotham to act as installing senior warden, Derek Abbott to act as installing junior warden and Cliff Boynton to act as installing inner guard.
The galaxy of grand and acting Provincial grand officers processed into the lodge in a most dignified manner and after the usual salutations, the master elect David Edwards was presented by Wayne Beacher, his close friend going back to their school days.
The master elect was installed in excellent fashion by Paul Darlington, ably assisted by the director of ceremonies David Britton. The working tools were particularly well presented by Jay Hindmarch, Geoff Diggles and Jamie Blundell.
The officers of the lodge were then invested, during which the address to the deacons was delivered by Bob Boal. The address to the stewards was given by Daren Gardner and addresses to the master and wardens were delivered with panache by Wayne Beacher and Harry Cox respectively. Finally Robert Wright addressed the brethren of the lodge.
At the conclusion of the installation, Robert congratulated Paul on the manner in which he had installed David and thanked all the brethren who had taken part in the ceremony. On behalf of the lodge, David presented Robert with cheques for charities with a combined total of £2,850, consisting of £100 to the Rosemere Cancer Fund, £750 to the Cleveleys Masonic Hall building fund, £500 to Red Marsh School, £500 to Trinity Hospice, and £1,000 to the Masonic Charitable Foundation 2021 Festival. Robert thanked the lodge brethren on behalf of the recipients.
The brethren were treated to a wonderful festive board and Robert Wright responded to toast number three, making particular reference to the Royal Arch and the MCF 2021 Festival. A ‘Westhoughton raffle’ took place which raised £521 for charities. The toast to the newly made master was given by Paul Darlington and the master’s song was rendered by Hugh Mett. At the conclusion of a marvellous evening the tyler’s toast was presented by Bob Major.
