The brethren and friends of Rivington Lodge No 8013 gathered to celebrate the installation of Dave Thompson into the chair of King Solomon for a second time. The members of the lodge were honoured by the presence of Assistant Provincial Grand Master Stewart Seddon, accompanied by no fewer than six grand lodge officers, these being Ken Shaw, Alan Byers, John Robson, Malcolm Dewhurst, John Dutchman-Smith and Steve Gregory, along with Chorley group vice chairman Peter Allen and group secretary Don Hesketh. Also on hand in support of Stewart were acting Provincial officers Peter Horgan, Steve Ralph, David Topping and Gary Fisher.
Installing master Michael Goodman placed Dave into the chair of King Solomon in fine style. Michael was ably assisted by his officers under the direction of the lodge director of ceremonies Mike Jones. The master’s address was given by Peter Allen, that to the wardens by Malcolm Lunt and that to the deacons by Rod Bowmer. Mike Harrison gave the addresses to both the inner guard and tyler.
Special mention must be made of the brethren in light blue that did a great job with the working tools: Graeme Hunt presenting the third degree tools, David Hindley those of the second degree and David Sexton reciting those of the first degree.
It was a night of celebration all round with lodge members having received Provincial Grand Lodge promotions and appointments; Peter Allen having received the very high honour of Provincial Junior Grand Warden and Dave Thompson his first appointment of Past Provincial Assistant Grand Director of Ceremonies.
It was also a busy evening for Stewart as he was on hand to present a certificate to Dave celebrating the fact that the lodge was the first in the group to donate £4,500 (grand patronage) to the Masonic Charitable Foundation 2021 Festival, the lodge having 65% of its membership pledging patronage to the festival.
The festive board that followed was a celebration of Masonic friendship in the traditions of the lodge – a great night for all in attendance!
