Eccles Group Chairman Dave Walmsley has received grand rank honours to that of Past Assistant Grand Director of Ceremonies at United Grand Lodge in London. Dave has an envious history of service to Freemasonry that has contributed to the recognition of his input and involvement in the Eccles and District Group, resulting in his appointment to that of grand rank.
Dave was initiated into Broad Oak Lodge No 7239 on 4 December 1978 and occupied the chair in that lodge in 1987, 2002, 2007 and 2008. He also served the office of DC for a period of 8 years. Broad Oak Lodge amalgamated with Trafford Park Lodge in 2009 and became Trafford Park Broad Oak Lodge No 4486. Dave stepped in once again to occupy the chair of the amalgamated lodge in 2013.
Dave’s first Provincial appointment was on 19 May 1994 as Provincial Grand Steward following which he joined Quingenti Lodge No 8516 on 28 November 1994. On 8 October 1998 he was promoted to Past Provincial Grand Superintendent of Works and again on 28 September 2006 to that of Past Provincial Junior Grand Warden.
Dave joined Royal Arch on 28 March 1989 when he was exalted into Egerton Chapter No 2216 and was installed as third principal on 28 January 1997, second principal on 27 January 1998 and first principal on 26 January 1999. His first Provincial appointment in Royal Arch was that of Provincial Grand Steward on 22 April 2004 and was promoted on 16 April 2008 to Past Provincial Grand Scribe Nehemia. He occupied the office of principal sojourner in Egerton Chapter for a period of 14 years.
Dave served as Eccles and District Group minutes secretary from 2001 to 2003 and took the office of group secretary on 9 October 2004 and was appointed as group vice chairman on 21 May 2007 and finally that as Eccles and District Group Chairman on 21 May 2012 to the present.
In his professional life, Dave served in the police force for over 30 years before retiring in 2001. During his time in the police force he carried out various roles including, Criminal Investigation, Crime and Specialist Training, Major Crime Investigation and a secondment to the Home Office Forensic Science Service.
Dave has been married to Sandra for almost 40 years and they have two children, Mike and Claire and the love of their life, granddaughter Ellie, who Dave admits to being ravelled round her little finger.
In his spare time, Dave and Sandra enjoy walking, both locally and in the Lake District and also enjoy cruise holidays having been throughout the Mediterranean, Japan, Vietnam, Tai Wan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Caribbean, Middle East, Norwegian Fiords and parts of South America.
It would be fair to say that Dave has led a full and interesting life both professionally and his love of his family and that of his Freemasonry. It is a wonderful accolade to the Eccles and District Group that Dave has been awarded that of a grand rank.
